KILMORE COURTHOUSE & TOWN HALL

Sydney Street in Kilmore is home to the town's most beautiful buildings. The Courthousse was constructed in 1863, is a fine example of Victorian Romanesque style architecture.  Bringing law and order to Victoria's oldest inland town.  The Courthouse was instrumental in the development of the Kilmore township.

A truly beautiful building, the former Town Hall was built in 1894 and features a decorative facade with enormous Corinthian pillars.

MONUMENT HILL RESERVE

A fantastic recreational area perfect for activities such as bush-walking and horse riding.

Situated at the top of the Hill is the Hume and Hovell monument. This was erected to honour the explorers whose expedition played a significant role in establishing the colony of Victoria.  The monument is a watchtower from the former Kilmore Goal and from the top you can look out over Kilmore and the surrounding countryside.

From the monument, follow one of the walking tracks that leads down the ridge to the golf course, cricket club or Kilmore Hospital Reservoir.  Local wildlife is abundant.

SEYMOUR RAIL HERITAGE CENTRE

Operating special heritage trail tours on preserved diesel and steam locomotives to various Victorian destinations, the Seymour Rail Heritage Centre provides experiences for rail enthusiasts of all ages.  Passengers can hop on a historic and handsome old wooden carriage or opt for a steel air-condition carriage.  Either option will have you stepping back into Victoria's rail heritage.

If a day trip on an old locomotive is not your thin, SRHC welcomes visitors to call ahead and book a guided tour of the depot located in the heart of Seymour.  The Centre housed the original Spirit of Progress steel carriages as well as the wooden Royal Carriages built in 1906 that have accommodated royalty such as Princess Diana and Prince Charles in 1983.

Depot tours and charters are by appointment only and can be booked by contacting SRHC directly via email: info@srhc.org.au

SEYMOUR RAILWAY STATION

One of Victoria's most historically and architecturally significant railway stations, the Seymour Railway Station will not disappoint with its extravagant architectural character.  Beginning life as a temporary timer building, in 1874 and 1875 the permanent buildings were constructed.  This consisted of an especially large refreshments room, kitchen, dining rooms and basement cellar.  Although slight modifications have been made of the years, the key elements of the original design remain intact.

Seymour Railway Station is historically significant as a rare and intact example of a station building built during the 'light lines' era and still provides a key link between Victoria and the northern states of Australia.

THE BLACK TRAIN SEYMOUR

Located in J.W. Elliot Reserve, The Black train is a preserved D3 684 steam locomotive built in 1913.  The train completed its last trip from Numurkah in 1964 before being purchased by the people of Seymour for £300.  The reserve where the train is boasts a centenary oak which celebrates 100 years of train travelling on the Melbourne - Wodonga line.  Within minutes of arriving at the Black Train, rail enthusiasts are bound to catch a great glimpse of a train roaring by on the nearby train line.  You'll see V/Line services to Melbourne, Shepparton and Albury-Wodonga as well as XPT services to Sydney, many freight trains and perhaps if you're lucky, you might even see a steam train puffing by.
