DISCOVER VICTORIA’S ORIGINAL TRAMWAY MUSEUM

The Tramway Heritage Centre, is currently in the situation where it needs to refresh its Visitors Centre and Archives Centre buildings to be able to enhance it’s general visitors experience. Unfortunately both of these buildings do not look the greatest on the outside.

The Visitors Centre is located in a ‘Bristol Building’ that came from the Castlemaine Technical School and was erected in 1996 in its current location.   It currently features our main visitors reception, museum shop and Terminus Gallery.  Works are currently occurring on the inside of the building.  Various colours will be utilised to allow the building to stand out including painting SECV tram stripes on the side of the building.   It is also anticipated that when the painting has been completed we will undertake landscaping work around the entrance.

The Archives Centre is being established in the Old Bylands Railway Station, Station Master’s/Caretakers house, a typical Victorian Railways house.   Works have commenced on the inside to prepare the building. As there is a heritage overlay on the house, it will be painted in traditional colours of cream, green and maroon.
