Trams have played an integral part in the life of many cities since the latter part of the 19th Century to modern times. Back in its heyday during the "Gold Rush" era, many Australian cities developed tramways to transport people before the widespread advent of the automobile.
The TMSV is responsible for a large collection of trams. Most of our tramcar fleet is from Melbourne, with other trams from Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo, Sydney and Adelaide.
Most of our collection is housed at our Tramway Heritage Centre, Bylands, with some vehicles on loan to the Victorian Government, being housed at the Hawthorn Tram Depot (Melbourne Tram Museum).
